The Everlasting Winter

by M. Javad Alizade – from the heartlands of the Middle East.

Sitting alone in this familiar darkness
Of profound grief and fathomless silence
By the frozen rivers of perception
Hearing the cries from the void, calling me

Holding on to this endless misery
Drowning in the life’s short eternity
Deceived by the elders and defiled by hope
Waiting for the one who was promised
To glitter and end this dead sun’s aeon

Not knowing that I had all that was needed
To set this frozen world on flames
Gazing upon the abyss, still I wait
For you to lead me through the dark
As only you can be my guide to the light
Show me the rays of sun, show me the golden dawn.
